Dear Families,
This morning was Friendship Group day! The groups had to plan a Thanksgiving dinner on a $25 budget and build a table and four chairs out of dominoes and popsicle sticks. It is so much fun to see them work together and problem solve!
Next week is a short week because of Thanksgiving. We are dismissing at 11:40 on Wednesday. I will not be sending home any homework, but please encourage your child to keep working on the memory work and reading and filling out the reading log!
The class marble jar has been emptied and a prize has been voted on! The winning prize is to have "technology day" next Wednesday! I will send home a note with more details and a permission slip for this on Monday.
The 2nd - 4th graders will be presenting our Christmas Musical "For the Glory of the King" on Thursday Dec. 6 at 6:30 PM in our school gym. Please plan to arrive at 6:15 PM and have your child come to our classroom. If you arrive earlier please keep your child with you until 6:15 when I will unlock our door. Please note that we consider this to be a family event so if you bring performer's siblings, please make sure that they sit with you and not somewhere on the bleachers by themselves. If younger children are being noisy we respectfully ask that you take them to the atrium so those around you are able to listen to the performance without distraction. One last thing, we could use your help with riser set-up and riser take-down. Many hands make light work. Set-up will happen on Thursday morning Dec. 6 at 7:30 AM and taking-down will happen immediately following the performance. We could also you a few greeters at the beginning of the program. If you are willing and able to help please contact Krista Voetberg at [email protected]. Thank you so much! We are looking forward to seeing you.-- Krista Voetberg
Our room moms are collecting gift cards for a Gift Card Tree for the auction! They can be for any amount and for any where you would like. I've seen some restaurants and stores are doing a "bonus" with gift card purchase! You can buy some for the auction and get a bonus to use yourself! Some ideas are restaurants, coffee shops, gas stations, movie theaters, stores, Family Fun Centers (Revel & Roll, Skyzone etc). They can even be purchased through TRIP so you get tuition credit! We will also accept cash donations to purchase gift cards. Please send them to school with your student and I have an envelope to collect them.
We have a great start on our November collection for Loaves and Fishes! We are still collecting special packaged treats (Hostess, Little Debbie, etc.) through the end of the month.
I am planning a Christmas Sock Exchange for our classroom for Christmas. We have done this the last couple of years and it has really been a lot of fun. I ask each child to bring in a fun pair of Christmas themed socks wrapped and addressed to a boy or girl. On the last day of school before Christmas Break we read a "right/left" story to pass out the socks. Then we all take our shoes off, put on our fun Christmas socks, and go around without shoes for the rest of the day. I wanted to give you a heads up in case you see some great sales in the next couple of weeks. If you do see any awesome sales, please let me know so that I can pass it on to the rest of the families. I try to have a couple extra pairs on hand, so if you grab an extra pair let me know and I will be willing to take them off your hands and pay you right back!
Have a great weekend!
In Christ,
Jonni Hoeksema
